What are Sneakers?
Sneakers for men are shoes primarily designed for sports or other forms of physical exercise. These shoes were designed with rubber soles as opposed to standard hard leather soles. Leather soles were noisy but the rubber soles were so silent that the wearer could easily ‘sneak up’ on someone else. Hence, the name ‘Sneakers’ as it referred to how quiet the rubber soles were on the ground.

Strange name for a sneaker, isn’t it? You will find the reason behind its name surprising. Plimsoll (or plimsole) aka Sand Shoes is a type of shoe with a canvas upper and solid rubber sole developed as beachwear.
The Plimsoll Shoes got its name from the colored horizontal band joining the upper to the sole, which resembled the Plimsoll line on a ship’s hull. The Plimsoll line (or waterline) is the line where the hull of a ship meets the surface of the water. Just like the Plimsoll line on a ship, if water got above the line of the rubber sole, the wearer would get wet.
As the name suggests, these type of sneakers doesn’t have any type of closure but features an elastic strip attached to either one or both sides of the upper. Slip-on sneakers are easy to wear and remove. The attached elastic facilities easy removal but also keeping snuggly fit.
